The Wide View

When I first started shooting my Pentax 67ii with it’s 10x8 aspect ratio, I struggled for a long time. The frame is so much narrower than 35mm, where movement in an image from side to side is just part of the natural composition. With the Pentax, I had to learn different ways of composing for the squarer frame but it also pushed me in to thinking about other framing shapes, particularly square and panoramic. This is where my love for the wide view started.

I still shoot my Pentax to capture panoramic images, often on Ilford HP5 Plus but more recently I’ve started shooting a little Fuji X100F, partly because it has the ability to shoot square and panoramic images in camera, along with the normal 35mm shape pictures. So here are a selection of black and white shots from recent morning walks around the sea wall here in Tollesbury, all shot on the little Fuji.
