Day 1
Tuesday 21st June 2016
So the journey has begun, from mid-summer 2016 to mid-summer 2017. I've attempted a 365 project once before and got through around 14 weeks before my enthusiasm was challenged by moving our life to Tollesbury.
I started my last 365 on 1st January and realised that this time around I'd much prefer to finish in the long days of summer, a time when the world is vividly alive in our small corner of England. I hope that through this year I can share some of what makes my home so special.
So what what will the year bring? One thing is for sure, it will hold a few surprises and it seems they start on the very first day. UK Film Lab who I use to develop and scan my film are packing up and moving to British Columbia. Not the best timing given that I've committed to using film on this project and need a good dev and scan service at this point. I guess it's a good life lesson that the only constant in our lives is change.
I was thinking about how to start. Should I go for an iconic shot of the Tollesbury Sail Lofts, maybe something that said summer, maybe crops in the fields. I stopped on the way home to take poppies in a wheat field. But then, at the end of my road I noticed a derelict garden full of poppies. I'm so lucky with the amount of great subjects I have on offer to photograph. I don't intend to stick to a rigid plan for this project and just let providence guide me.
