Day 141

Autumn colour near Ulting

Autumn colour near Ulting

Tuesday 8th November

Another really grey morning with flat light, nothing interesting going on with it at all. It's totally dark by the time I leave the office these days, so my only chance of natural light photography is in the morning or at lunchtime and daytime in Chelmsford is going to be difficult to find inspiration regularly.

So this morning I stopped off near Ulting and again around Little Baddow to capture some Autumn colour. Foliage and flowers often look better when photographed under flat lighting, with subtle shadows rather than the hard light of sunshine falling on them which often takes away their colour and form. The leaves have hung around for so long this year; we've had no significant rain since the beginning of July or any stormy days with strong winds to blow the leaves off the trees. Autumn colour has been pretty amazing this year and it's uplifting to drive through it on a daily basis; I will miss it when the trees finally succumb to winter.
