Day 248

Tail end of Storm Dorris over the Chelmer Valley

Tail end of Storm Dorris over the Chelmer Valley

Thursday 23rd February 2017

Storm Dorris well and truly hit today. Huge down pours, high winds, many reports of roads closures and one person sadly lost their life up in the West Midlands. Fortunately we came out relatively unscathed. From my office window, I watched as three large cranes being swung around by the winds over a building site and at home our neighbours trampoline ended up jumping the garden wall to land on our driveway.

I left Chelmsford to travel home in the light, but although there was some debris on the roads it was pretty clear. I arrived home just in time for a power cut, happily it only lasted 5 minutes.

As often happens the stormy skies were spectacular, particularly at sunset. I'm not really sure why it looked as though there were sun rays shining through the billowing clouds from the south-east; definitely the wrong place for the setting sun but the result was eye catching.
