Day 266

Chelmer Valley

Chelmer Valley

Monday 13th March 2017

I was hoping to be at home today, but I lost so much time last week that I have to be in the office. I stopped in the valley bottom today and walked down to the river. I shot a few frames but nothing grabbed me and I couldn't find an interesting patch of light. The answer, as so often is the case, was to turn towards the sun to emphasise shape and texture. The fields in the Chelmer Valley are being prepared for the new growing season, exposing the rich black soil. The promise of spring is starting to gather pace.

On my walk through the city this evening, I was saddened to see the old Chelmsford Institute empty and up for rent. Such an iconic building, which in it's time I'm sure was greatly significant for the town. On reflection though it really is just the march of time and this stoic, old building has been replaced by Chelmsford College and more recently by the University.
