Day 284

River Blackwater near Rolls Farm

River Blackwater near Rolls Farm

Friday 31st March 2017

Four weeks until Doff is home and it's already seemed like a long time for her to be away. I published a photo taken near Rolls Farm on my blog this morning and this evening I decided to go back again. The sky was almost clear and at this time of year the sun should be setting along the river. Unfortunately just before sunset, the sun disappeared behind a low band of cloud. That left me looking more at the riverscape and I noticed a network of mud banks exposed by the low tide, backlit by the setting sun, it's light glowing across the water and wet mud.

I was the only person on the sea wall here this evening, gentle noises of sea birds and waders, a cry from a bird of prey in the fields close by, sky turning orange and a soft, warm breeze offering the smells of saltwater.
