Day 7
Monday 27th June 2016
I felt very excited early today as my first roll of film was posted to the lab for processing and scanning, but I ended the day feeling frustrated. I'm just not used to the lack of immediate feedback with film anymore. I know that I can come away from pretty much any situation with a decent picture, but I just don't know whether I have so far because I can't see the results. I also feel as though I'm not experimenting enough on film, I feel very restricted with only 36 frames on a roll. I love the results from film and one of my goals of this 365 is to be more discerning before hitting the shutter release, but I hadn't expected this to be so difficult.
I think I may have to look at setting up my darkroom at home again in order to develop the films to reduce cost and I'd like to experiment with scanning the film too. The cost of digital is born upfront, once you've bought the camera you can shoot away seemingly for free but with film you bear the cost as you shoot and now that so few people shoot film the cost has more than doubled. I really do want to push my photography forward through this project, so I need to shoot a lot, I need to experiment and I'm so pleased that I chose to shoot both film and digital.
