Day 178

Moon over Tollesbury

Moon over Tollesbury

Thursday 15th December

The moon has been so bright recently and today it's just past full but still like a headlamp in the sky. Such a bright moon seems to illuminate the landscape here as if it's sole purpose is to light up Tollesbury.

I found out this week that we are apparently closer to the sun at this time of year, even though it's winter. I know it sounds entirely counter intuitive but there you have it. It's all about the daylight hours and the tilt of the earth in the winter; the suns rays hit us at a very shallow angle and have to pass through more of the atmosphere, weakening them before they get the chance to warm us up.
