Day 100
Old Flour Mill, Maldon
Wednesday 28th September
By the time I left Chelmsford the light was already fading. I walked through the city centre and got a few pictures and on the way through Maldon I stopped off to check how the light was falling on the old flour mill. I've tried with morning and evening light but it's never been quite right. Tonight, with the sun lost for the day and the last of its light reflecting off the clouds, the old flour mill looked as though it glowed from the within. It doesn't suit every subject but it can create a strong graphic quality perfect for this old relic.
My scans were waiting for me at home. The development looks fine, good grain structure, contrasty negatives and no chemical marks. DigitalLab use a Noritsu scanner and I think I prefer the Fuji Frontier; the scans of Fuji Pro 400H are not quite as crisp and clean as I would like. Really unsure of the Tri-X scans at the moment. The highlights and shadows just haven't been held. I'll scan them to see if it's the issue is in the scan or the underlying exposure. It's my first time using Tri-X and it may take some getting used to.
