Day 156

Woodrolfe Hard

Woodrolfe Hard

Wednesday 23rd November

I walked around the garden before sunset this evening but just couldn't find the right subject and the light was very poor, dull and grey. After dropping in on a friend we headed down to the hard this evening. It was only around 8pm but felt like midnight. Not a soul in sight, very dark, still, no sounds from the waders or sea birds. I had thought the old sail lofts were lit at night, definitely not, so no picture there. As we continued on to the Woodrolfe Pool there was a bright glow on the horizon and as luck would have it, the tide was in. I've been carrying my tripod in the car routinely for sometime now and it was definitely needed tonight. With barely enough light to focus, I guessed at the exposure; 20 seconds.

It could only be out here on the east coast. A sailing barge resting quietly in the darkness, distant light casting a glow across the low cloud and reflecting off the high tide. Nothing stirring, the tide silent, not even a whisper from the breeze, almost as though time stands still, maybe a glimpse of a world that goes unseen; there is something Narnia-like about this place?
