Day 291
Our Garden
Friday 7th April 2017
Day working at home today and another day of starting early and finishing late. I'm looking forward to this weekend. Still three weeks until Doff returns home, at least the time is going quickly with so much going on at work.
Another picture taken at sunset tonight and the sun had already dipped behind the trees in our garden, leaving me with pretty flat light. You can still use this type of light to pick out the layers in a picture, using natural light falloff (all to do with the inverse square law). I shot straight down using strong graphic shapes and I knew that I'd get light falloff from the top layer through to the ground, making the ground much darker than anything closer to the camera. I also know I'd get light fall off to the edges when using such a wide aperture. All of that light fall off provides a strong, contrasty lighting affect out of dull flat light. I love shots like this, just a small vignette, a corner of our garden that you probably wouldn't even notice but here it's the star of the show.
I was out late in the garden, calling for Merlin who was out raking around. The smells from the river were strong, salty with a hint of seaweed tonight and I could hear the water birds clearly. I lingered for a few minutes just to soak it up.
