Day 298
Our Garden
Friday 14th April 2017
Today was Good Friday and I'm so relieved to have a long weekend in front of me. I spent this morning finishing and publishing my set of photos from the 1940s shoot on Wednesday and I'm so pleased with the result. The photos show real progress in the use of studio lights for portraiture and they are a strong, cohesive set of images. The rest of the day was spent out in the garden, including shifting 850KG of gravel on to the new flower bed we recently planted. Unfortunately my calculations were a bit out and I probably need double the amount just to cover the soil.
We have many Tulips in flower at the moment and Doff has planted some which are burnt orange in colour. They are next to a Berberis, also in full flower and a very similar colour. I wanted to get a plant portrait and I would normally turn to my 100mm Macro lens, getting tight in on the flower head but that wouldn't fit with this project and I really want to broaden out these portraits to include more context. I got in to the flower bed, and took a viewpoint as low as possible to get down in to the flower's world. I really like the result. Intimate and atmospheric, certainly not a plain descriptive picture.
