Day 305
Our Garden
Friday 21st April 2017
Day 1 of digger challenge today. I am levelling off the garden behind the garage to create a productive garden and it's only really dawning on me how big this area is. It's easily 10 or 15 times bigger than our entire garden in Brentwood. The plan is to start digging at the side of the garage and work backwards towards the house until it's all done.
I Facetimed with Doff today and showed Tom the digger, he was very impressed and a big star for me! However that was just for starters as we were still Facetiming when the skip lorry reversed up our driveway. Well Tom was spellbound. Worth all the hassle just for those brief few minutes.
Today I needed to get used to driving and digging with the mini-JCB and I levelled out the first area. I also found that I've ordered the wrong skip. It doesn't have a drop down front flap, so everything has to go over the top. I started by creating an aerial walkway which I pushed the wheel barrow along to get to the skip. That worked fine until I fell off with 80KG of waste earth and plant material in the barrow. Moral of the story; hire a skip with a drop down front.
I finished just after sunset, tired from a long day but happy with what I've achieved so far. I wanted to get a shot at home tonight and I had to generate a bit of light as it was getting dark. I used the daylight balanced light inside the greenhouse to backlight the digger which, in turn, was lit just enough by the fading sunset. I really love these mixed light shots with warmer and cooler tones.
This post will be published on the 21st June, the solstice, mid-summer and the last day of my project. It seems to have come around so quickly but there are still 2 months of photographs left to take, no time for complacency that's for sure.
