Day 362

Five days left to go and I'm looking at my bucket list, those photos that I've noticed but not found the right time or light to capture so far. I've spent so much time down at Woodrolfe Hard recently, today I turn my attention to some inland shots that I have had in mind. So it was off to John's farm which spans the road leading in to our village; it could win awards for being so tidy and well kept. The buildings have featured earlier in this project but there is definitely more here that I want to work on. There's one barn in particular that has drying funnels on top, almost like the vents on top of a ship but the light and my 50mm lens just weren't coming together for the shot tonight.

I fought with the shot for a while before realising that I need to concentrate on how the light is falling across the building; that's one huge lesson from this project. So I stood back and looked at the light and noticed the shadows being cast across the front. I also noticed the juxtaposition of the strong vertical and horizontal lines picked out by the angle of the sun and of course the distinct shape of the barn, everything seeming to point to the skies, almost cathedral like. Such a strong graphic photo but one which is lifted to greater heights by the light etching it's patterns.
