Day 89

St. Michael's Mount

St. Michael's Mount

Saturday 17th September

So our break is coming to an end and we left Cornwall today, stopping tonight at Piddletrenthide to break the journey. We've had a great time in Cornwall, such a positive vibe down at the most remote part of England. We soaked up the atmosphere of this ancient place and it's helped to start the healing process after the loss of Doff's dad.

We travelled across country all the way to Dorset through some beautiful countryside. Penzance, Truro, St Austell, Liskeard, Tavistock, over Dartmoor, Exeter, Honiton, Dorchester and Piddeletrenthide. We stopped for lunch at the Old Inn, Widecombe In The Moor, a Devon cream tea.

We arrived at Piddletrenthide late afternoon, checked in and had a short drive to Cern Abbas to see the giant, not looking his best at the moment and then up through the Piddle valley. Very beautiful villages built in local stone or rendered and thatched; Buckland Newton is a real gem.

We ate at the Halsey Arms in Pulham watched over by a Harris Hawk and a Gyr Saker falcon; the owner keeps 3 birds and puts on Hawk walks in the very large garden behind the pub.
