Day 94
Little Baddow church
Thursday 22nd September
This week has been a difficult one, energy levels are low and both Doff and I are still feeling down. Struggling to get a picture today and I wasn't really sure whether what I've got is good or just a rehash of what I've done before. I've photographed this scene of Little Baddow church several times, on digital, on Fuji 400H and to compare digital B&W against Ilford HP5+. However the light was really special on this occasion, with warm evening sun spotlighting the church as it dips below the clouds.
Continuing to look at my experiences from the past three months, today I want to consider the aesthetics a bit more. I'm pleased with this first set of pictures and there have been a few moments where I feel as though I've moved forward as a photographer. More recently I've been trying to concentrate more on capturing light, particularly the contrasts of light and shade and the shots from Cornwall were some of the strongest from this point of view. Going forward this is something I want to explore further. Such strong use of light can add so much drama and atmosphere. It's a form of abstraction, not what our eye normally sees and that often leads to an image which is more engaging, asking questions of us.
