Day 95

Mill Beach

Mill Beach

Friday 23rd September

Few meetings today and I managed to get a pretty reasonable amount done, still have a huge amount to catch-up on. I stopped at Mill Beach on the way home and took a bunch of pictures. The tide was at it's highest and it transformed the whole area, the water really had reclaimed it's territory.

So what can I say about my corner of this world, about the Blackwater estuary and the Chelmer Valley. I don't believe I have rose tinted spectacles but this is a special place. I remember my dad describing the area out past Maldon as the wild east, a reference way back in the 1960s and 70s but in many ways he would still be right today. Although we are in touching distance of London, much of what lies around us is wild, natural, an abundance of life. Walking the sea wall, particularly as we move through autumn and winter, is to experience the wild, to experience wilderness and it is here in plain sight and yet so often underappreciated.
