Day 86

Lanyon Quoit

Lanyon Quoit

Wednesday 14th September

We headed out to Sennen Cove this morning. The bay was bathed in sunshine, the sea an impossible blue with multicoloured spots of the many surfers that ride the big breakers here. It doesn't get much better than this.

We headed up the coast to St Just, which is looking very prosperous and quite dapper and then on to Botallack to see the wheel houses on the cliffs. It felt great to get out and stretch the legs on the coast path for a while. We stopped at a little gallery in the middle of no where which had some seriously impressive work, amazing pottery, jewellery, sculpture and paintings. I find it extraordinary that a gallery can spring up in aplace where there is only passing traffic; they must generate their own following.

We spent the early evening at the Holy well at Madron, then at Lanyon Quoit and watched the sun set over the Men-An-Tol. Looking out across the countryside here, everything has been shaped by man over thousands of years and yet it appears so timeless and wild.

We managed to get a table at the Admiral Benbo for dinner; it is literally the maddest pub in the world.
